The rich man and Lazarus narration in Luke 16:22-24 is a parable. The fire is no more literal than is Lazarus being in Abraham's bosom. Abraham was dead and in the grave, therefore Lazarus was not literally in Abraham's bosom. Fire represents being totally consumed and being rendered nonexistent. Abraham's bosom represents Jehovah's favor. Matthew 8:11-12. Jesus often spoke using parables or illustrations. Matthew 13:34-35 (ASV),(NKJ),(NWT).
